From pregnancy tests, to first scans, to second scans, to first trimester to second trimester and now I'm in the third trimester! Not finding out the gender so been picking lots of gender neutral outfits - I have a brand new pram and car seat, sorting out nappies/water wipes, moses basket, next-to-me-cot, bath washes - I just need to get some bottles as I plan to combine feed boob & bottle (all being well) sort hospital bags, chose a baby formula etc! My house is too small for a nursery so I need to get my arse into gear and make space in the house but that nesting instinct hasn't really kicked in yet 🙈 I've been experiencing pre-natal depression the last few months also hence being MIA but also working and dealing with the 3 kids I already have. The last three weeks have been challenging since being diagnosed with gestational diabetes - having to do finger prick tests before meals/an hour after meals depending on the day and watch what I eat, regular meals and meal planning is something I find a challenge. I had an extra scan a week ago and was told they think the baby will be small and I have a scan next week to double check the growth of the baby (and check the placenta) but I don't feel worried because my first baby was only 6lb 4 but my second was 9lb 3oz so I don't think the scans can ever correctly predict the size - as long as the placenta is doing its job (minus being able to 'manage' insulin) then I'm happy with that. It'll be a little sugar baby! After birth they have to monitor the baby to ensure baby can manage its own glucose levels and I'll be potentially induced a week early (which I'm not mad about as my others were all overdue and induced) I've spoken to a few mothers who have experienced this plus also experiencing type 2 diabetes after or also completely recovering from it once the placenta was out. I love to know other people's stories on their births, pregnancy and if they had gestational diabetes - currently just trying to take day by day. Hope you're all doing OK grid people!"bryonyannie on March 18, 2025: "Just pregnancy things - the last few months feel like they've gone by so fast! Detection of #APAP in second-trimester maternal blood samples correlated with increased odds of ADHD diagnosis in children by age 8–10.

#Acetaminophen ( #paracetamol) is widely used during pregnancy, with an estimated 41–70% of pregnant individuals in the US, Europe, and Asia reporting its use…accumulating evidence suggests a potential link between #prenatal #APAPexposure and adverse #neurodevelopment outcomes, including #ADHD and #autismspectrum disorder.

Edit to add link. Apologies for popping into the timeline so frequently. There's a lot going on, and reporting on it is light. (But how many stories were there about Bezo's RealDoll's visible bra? So fucking many.)

In 2022 after R v. W was overturned, Biden directed that reproductiverights.gov be created. It had information about #abortion rights, access to breast and cervical #cancer screenings, and other #sexual, #prenatal, and #preventive #healthcare.

The site went black at the same time as Herr Combover started his circus act with the #ExecutiveOrders. There is no replacement planned.

Y'all thought I were kidding when I said #maga hates #women. I have been working for reproductive rights since the 80s, starting as a clinic escort when "christians" were beating women with sticks trying to get into clinics. I got my bioethics Phd focused on women's health. I guaran-gawddamn-tee you, these men see women as nothing more than chattel, fleshlights & breeders.

"Prenatal genome editing, which involves changing the DNA of a human fetus inside the womb, has not happened yet (as far as we know), but the societal implications of the technology are still enormous. The technology offers a chance to address cellular disease processes early and prevent symptoms from ever appearing. However, there are many ethical issues with using the technology."

#Gender is viewed by many as strictly binary based on a collection of body traits typical of a female or male phenotype, presence of a #genotype that includes at least one copy of a Y chromosome, or ability to produce either egg or sperm cells. A growing #non-binary view is that these descriptors, while compelling, may nonetheless fail to accurately capture an individual's true gender. The position of the American Psychological Association (#APA) agrees with this view and is that #transgender people are a defendable and real part of the human population. The considerable diversity of transgender expression then argues against any unitary or simple explanations, however, #prenatal #hormone levels, #genetic influences, and early and later life experiences have been suggested as playing roles in development of transgender identities. The present review considers existing and emerging #toxicologic data that may also support an #environmental #chemical #contribution to some transgender identities, and suggest the possibility of a growing nonbinary #brain #gender #continuum in the human population.<<

The mean number of prenatal care visits decreased similarly for all racial-ethnic groups during the COVID-19 pandemic, whereas reductions in hospital births were largest for non-Hispanic White individuals, and increases in labor inductions were largest for non-Hispanic White and non-Hispanic Asian or Pacific Islander individuals.

PubMedPerinatal Care Changes During COVID-19: A Population-Based Analysis by Race/Ethnicity - PubMedAmong all U.S. live births, the COVID-19 pandemic was associated with modest overall changes in perinatal care, with differential changes by maternal race‒ethnicity. Differential changes in perinatal services may have implications for racial-ethnic maternal health disparities.
