Met Roddy Doyle yesterday! A friend said it, and I agree, he's a James Joyce for our generation. If I'm honest, I prefer his generous, warm, smiling, crying, simple, serious work. A nice man, a great privilege. Signed copies of his latest from www.kennys.ie #roddydoyle

– senza capirlo. I am very happy to share that, thanks to Literature Ireland, I will be translating into #Bulgarian the novel "Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha" by Irish author Roddy Doyle.

The novel won the Booker Prize in 1993. I don't remember exactly why the book grabbed my attention, but after I finished reading it, I just had to convince my publisher to get the translation rights 😀

Here's a little something by Roddy Doyle himself about how he came to write Paddy:

I've just read this #RoddyDoyle book. Great writing set in Covid lock down. I found the fractured storyline confusing and intriguing. Name changes seeming new characters, memories that don't match up. Is this about mental breakdown/hallucinations?
No it's 10 shortstories 😂 and I didn't realise till I'd finished.

Jimmy Rabbitte: "The Irish are the blacks of Europe. And Dubliners are the blacks of Ireland. And the Northside Dubliners are the blacks of Dublin. So say it once and say it loud, I'm black and I'm proud."
