Here are yesterday's dragon fruit cuttings being prepped for planting.

I snipped the bottoms and am letting them dry up. They dry pretty quickly (as you can see in pic 2, it's already dried quite a bit), but I'm going to give it another day or two before planting.

I call it "dragon fruit alley", located near punalu'u beach on the south side of the island.

These are growing wild on both sides of the road.

I didn't see any fruit, but I did see some buds.

Dragon fruit definitely like this sunny, hot environment. They would definitely be happy with more rain, but they rot in areas with a whole lot of rain.

Pic 4: the cuttings I took. I tried to pick fat, healthy cuttings. Dragon fruit plants are pretty slow-growing so I picked some fairly robust pieces.

Pro-tip for handling dragon fruit plants: the spikes ARE sharp, so wear gloves and be careful.

The wind here at the moment is huge!

My new, very fragile looking #DragonFruit has been secured as best I can for now.

It hasn't moved a millimetre since I've added all the bits of bamboo.

I'll need to buy a much bigger, sturdier, taller trellis if I,m going to get any fruit from it in the next 2 years (if I'm still alive by that time) #gardening

Idk if you can tell but my art history education is limited, and there may be things about this piece that have cultural meaning that I'm not aware of. Or maybe not.🥴

I love the colors and the contrast, rocks and fruit 😍, and the fact that Death is hanging out nearby, Death is always hanging around nearby, right?

Maybe any still life that doesn't have Death hanging around nearby is frivolous and delusory. haha

bright red egg shaped dragonfruit, some cut in half, are arrayed in front of two gnarled, pitted rocks, one black-grey, the other brown. There is another fruit or seed of some kind that is brown and covered with fine white hair (I don't know what it is), and a bright green leaf. There is a small skeleton with a long sickle sitting on one of the rocks.
