#Jazz

Spent the last roughly 3 hours listening to the 6 #LP #MosaicRecords set of "The Complete Blue Note Recordings of Sidney Bechet" recorded between 1939 & 1953.

I'm not really a #Dixieland or #TraditionalJazz"fan but the time flew by as I changed/flipped the LPs every 15 mins or so listening to this amazing 70-85 yr old music.

Sidney Bechet played jazz #clarinet long before #BennyGoodman came on the scene &, while it's undocumented, I dare say that what #Goodman learned about how to play the jazz clarinet, he learned from #SidneyBechet.

Louis Armstrong and his Hot Five - Volume 1

To think that this was already 30 years old when Dad bought it in the 50s...it's now a 99-year-old recording of a hugely important period in Jazz history, where Louis Armstrong kind of invented the whole idea of soloing.

Mono, a bit rough as they gathered around a single mic, low-fi and rather glorious.

Louis Armstrong and his all-stars - Satch Plays Fats

A 1956 copy (from my Dad's collection) of a disc from Holland, clearly bought by him when he was in the Air Force (as a physician, stationed in Germany)…and I can't help but think of him trying to relax in any downtime listening to Satchmo and his band covering these Fats Waller tunes.

This mono Phillips version sounds great.
