If you're into listening to "vintage" jazz music, that's par for the course but the poor sound quality does not detract from listening to <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/SidneyBechet" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SidneyBechet</span></a> play a soulful version of <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/Summertime" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Summertime</span></a> on the B-side of the LP.</p><p>I could have bought a copy off of <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/Discogs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Discogs</span></a> but part of the fun of collecting LPs is going <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/BinDiving" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BinDiving</span></a> &amp; I consider this a great <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/LP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LP</span></a> find!</p><p>However, I am now thinking about buying the a Japanese re-issue of the original album for comparison.</p>
sgt1372<p><a href="https://sfba.social/tags/Jazz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Jazz</span></a></p><p>Spent the last roughly 3 hours listening to the 6 <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/LP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LP</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/MosaicRecords" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MosaicRecords</span></a> set of "The Complete Blue Note Recordings of Sidney Bechet" recorded between 1939 &amp; 1953. </p><p>I'm not really a <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/Dixieland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Dixieland</span></a> or <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/TraditionalJazz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TraditionalJazz</span></a>"fan but the time flew by as I changed/flipped the LPs every 15 mins or so listening to this amazing 70-85 yr old music. </p><p>Sidney Bechet played jazz <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/clarinet" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>clarinet</span></a> long before <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/BennyGoodman" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BennyGoodman</span></a> came on the scene &amp;, while it's undocumented, I dare say that what <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/Goodman" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Goodman</span></a> learned about how to play the jazz clarinet, he learned from <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/SidneyBechet" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SidneyBechet</span></a>.</p>
sgt1372<p><a href="https://sfba.social/tags/Jazz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Jazz</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/MosaicRecords" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MosaicRecords</span></a> </p><p>Mosaic Records (the premier re-issuer of old jazz classic sets) is now accepting pre-orders for a new 11 CD set of V-Disc (V for Victory) recordings produced between 1942-1949 for the US military. </p><p>Since the US govt ordered that all of the masters &amp; stampers be destroyed at the end of the program, Mosaic re-mastered the recordings from available 78s (&amp; in some cases from masters that were saved from destruction).</p><p>I just ordered it &amp; haven't heard all of it yet but clips from the set are provided in the link below.
