We would like to do daytrips to countryside or visit smaller towns from a base. Non-exhaustive visit to larger towns would als be nice. If it's stereotypically English, we're happy

@grob we stayed in Chipping Norton while my wife was on a textile course nearby. Lovely town, public transport, good pubs, gorgeous stone buildings. We stayed in the hotel that was once owned by Keith Moon, in a room with a four poster bed. #Cotswolds
