There are three ways to post GIFs on here:

- Upload a GIF file as an attachment, which works just like attaching an image. On most Mastodon servers the file can be up to 8 megabytes.

OR

- Some mobile apps & keyboards have a built-in GIF picker.

OR

- Post a link to the GIF from an external service like Giphy etc. GIF links will be automatically embedded as the GIF itself.

GIFs may or may not play automatically, depending on the settings of people viewing your post.

I guess this shows the other two methods are better, as they will be visible on a wider range of apps.

@feditips @ngorby it's even worse on the official mastodon web UI. It loads an iframe with stuff directly from giphy. Don't do that recipients using mastodon will get tracked by giphy
