I'm back from my latest terrorist activity, i.e. supporting our postal workers at a peaceful protest outside a post office downtown.

There were a lot of postal workers in their union shirts, but also people like me who just showed up in support. We got insane amounts of honking and waving from people in traffic, even a DHL truck! All the postal service workers laughed at that, but as one of them said, "Yeah, we're all in this together."

Mary Austin VOTED 4 HARRIS!

One postal worker told me that people with seniority were being offered "buyouts" to retire-- and not only was it an insultingly small amount, just $5000 initially and $10000 in a year's time, she and I agreed they'd never see that money anyway.

I also talked to the union head, who lives in a small town near this city, and telling her that I grew up way out in the country where people's lives depend on the post office. She said Musk and Trump will be closing down offices in towns...

...like hers where the locations doesn't make any money.

We know that it's about to get really bad for people in rural locations whether they voted for this or not. She was telling me she just couldn't convince these people not to vote against their own interests, but that they would realize soon how bad it was going to get.

I told everybody there about the protests April 5 and said I'd see them at the Capitol then! They were very interested when I showed them the website.

This regime is sitting on a powder keg of public anger, and they're so arrogant they think they are untouchable. But I am seeing the passion and fear and bravery in the crowds at these protests. The public response is only building. As we connect more and more through and , and as more MAGAs realize what's happening, the protests are going to be off the chart.

@MaryAustinBooks

It's quite possible they are counting on that anger to turn violent, so that they can invoke emergency powers and complete their shutdown of democracy, killing a few and incarcerating many along the way.

@huntingdon
That may be what they think, but I don't see the US military shooting us to keep somebody in power who's destroying the VA on top of everything else.

@MaryAustinBooks

The US military are not the only armed federal agencies under the command and control of the executive branch.

@huntingdon
True, and we already saw Trump using border patrol as his Nazi brown shirts in the first term. ICE is little more than brown shirts too. But the time will come soon that even those people will have personal financial distress, or family members facing the consequences of this regime's incompetence and cruelty. And the American people are not inclined to accept martial law-- remember Portland 2020? Trump's ham fisted tactics only provoked more unrest.

Regardless, we keep protesting.

@MaryAustinBooks

I am not arguing protests should stop. Far from it. We should try to keep them nonviolent, because violence plays to their strength and their near monopoly on the use of force.

People also need to know that civil disobedience brings consequences, and they should prepare for them. The three people who allegedly burned Tesla's were photographed, left fingerprints, and bragged about it on social media. That's not a winning strategy.

@huntingdon
Oh Lord, I couldn't agree more! I don't want any violence or even property destruction. Peaceful protests and strikes are definitely the way to go. I am just saying that MAGA is an explicitly violent, heavily armed movement and a lot of those people are about to be left with nothing to lose. I *hope* this situation can be resolved nonviolently! But I greatly fear there will be violence. I meant I'll just keep on keeping on, not engaging in any violence but not fearing to face it.

@MaryAustinBooks

Consider their typical M.O.

"Because that's what I would do"

They think liberals will revolt, because that's what they would do (and did)

@MaryAustinBooks

For millions of people, the USPS is the only way they communicate with govt, insurers, medical service providers, creditors, and other essential contacts.

It's how they vote, it's how they perform jury duty, it's how they prove who they are to get a library card and other purposes. Musk and Trump want to stop citizens from being citizens, and to commercialize everyone they can't stop doing that.

@huntingdon
Yes! And postal banking needs to be expanded upon, not destroyed. This is an essential service for people in remote areas and people in poverty generally. It's literally life and death for people in the country to get their mail order medications.

@huntingdon
They will also grab your savings, plunder your safe deposit boxes and digitise everything until they have one hundred percent control over the citizens and can blackmail everyone at will.

@MaryAustinBooks

@aerofreak @huntingdon

These are all things they might have successfully done if they weren't such blithering idiots. If they had kept of a facade of "the trains running on time" they might have had MAGA going along with it until it was too late. But they've broken so much so fast all at once, that's not going to work.

I fear there will be violence, but not like they think. As the commonplace protest signs say: "They want 1930's Germany, they'll get 1790s France."

@MaryAustinBooks
Do you think US citizens are ready for this?
It also depends on the executive. Will they all be on track, or are there forces that won't go along with this shit? And what about the armed forces?

@huntingdon

@aerofreak @huntingdon
Well, here's our US Army Chorus singing a revolutionary song to Trump and all 50 governors. Our military is extremely diverse, and even though there are a lot of Trumpers among white people in the enlisted ranks, even a lot of those people are not going to want to follow illegal orders to shoot protesters for a guy who's only screwing over them and their families too. MAGAs are already furious too, and the crap hasn't even really hit the fan yet.

Many, many people here, due to thoroughgoing failure in our mainstream media, are not fully aware of the level of destruction being wrought. But Rev. William Barber, an experienced progressive leader, is saying he thinks there will be Arab Spring scale protests here by April or May. I agree, from what we're already seeing. We already have a robust resistance despite legacy media blackout, no national leadership, and social media fascism.

Waging Nonviolence · Resistance is alive and well in the United StatesProtests of Trump may not look like the mass marches in 2017, but they're far more numerous and frequent — and also becoming more strategic.

@MaryAustinBooks
Thanks so much for the insight. I really really hope people will now quickly recognise this and take action - en masse!
There's so much at stake for the entire democratic part of the world.

@huntingdon

@aerofreak @huntingdon
Yes, the sooner everybody does that, the fewer people will die, both here and abroad. But it's going to happen eventually as people's survival instincts kick in.
