I just tried the feature with my account (the one I am also posting this from) and the hashtag: #HashtagFollow. Works as intended. In my home timeline on my home server I do see all new posts with this hashtag. This includes posts from users on remote instances whom I do not follow.
#HashtagFollow (toot for admin)
I am investigating issues around following hashtags in various Mastodon clients. If some of you folks could publish posts with #HashtagFollow without mentioning me or replying, please.
Thanks everyone who played our #SongsOrMoviesAboutRIPtwitter 9 o'clock #HashtagGames tonight.
I'll see you Saturday night at 9pm EST for another round.
Keep playing, if you like.
Don't forget to #HashtagFollow #HashtagGames so the new games show up in your home timeline.
#FediLab here, which, I understand, can actually follow #hashtags.
But, I also understand #hashTagFollow is a v4-only feature, AND you can set it up on your account with the standard desktop web UI and then it'll work everywhere. If you're on a v4 instance, I guess.
I haven't tried it.
Admin has got to do, what admins got to do. (Oder so ähnlich).

Elsewhere on the #Fediverse , #Misskey also has had it for quite some time.
