Random thought for world builders:
Think of unique fighting styles for characters who live in different areas.

Real World Examples:
👊 Compare kickboxing, Judo, Capoeira, and Kung Fu.
🤺 Compare fencing, hema, Angampora, and kendo.

The first fictional example I think of for magic is ATLA.

Here are the current concept art ideas I have for my characters for the project I am working on called Where They Lurk! The characters are
Sellswords: Elyra, Balgrim, Fynlar.
Assassin: Heafrion.
Villager: Antiiss.

Antiiss is iron-age Viking and Celtic inspired in both clothes and culture, while the others are a mix of medieval, viking, edo Japan, and more.

#WorldBuilding : Fishing customs!

For the village of Eloailsa, the nearby lake provides fish, water greens, and clams. The fish and greens are preserved for the long winters, and many villagers spend mornings and evenings collecting or fishing along the shore.

I took heavy inspiration from Scottish history for the creel basket designs, but they seem to be almost universal around the world.

⭐ Don't agonise over perfection – the odd typo won't make us hate an excellent story. Remember, publishers are looking for a sturdy foundation they can build upon. Your manuscript does not need to be publish-ready — it’s our job to get you there! So if you find yourself reading and re-reading your manuscript for the 999th time to catch those typos and to correct that formatting, it’s probably time to submit? [4/4]

I've not posted an update since before we went off to the Lake District for the second week of April. Progress has been severely hampered since then by, among other things, taking 17 days out to watch the World Snooker Championship (pretty much the only sporting event we get involved with in our house).

That's all done now, as of yesterday, so I got back to the draft in earnest today and clocked up almost 3,000 words, reaching the end of Chapter 16 (of 21) and rapidly closing in on 80% complete for this first draft.

I'd already pushed my target end-date back on our return from the Lakes (from end April to mid May) but I forgot to factor in the snooker, so now my tracking spreadsheet is saying I need to achieve another 3,000 words EVERY DAY for the next 8 days if I'm to hit that target.

Unlikely.

But I'm pretty sure I can do better than the spreadsheet's prediction of the actual end date (May 31st) and indeed I have to do better, because building work starts here during the last week of May and it's gonna be utter chaos for three or four months. I really don't want the draft to be affected by all that. Sporadic writing time is fine for editing, but for "the actual writing" I need more focus and near-zero distractions. We'll see.

Current predicted final word count: 108,000.
