A quotation from James Burgh

If you have a friend that will reprove your faults and foibles, consider you enjoy a blessing, which the king upon the throne cannot have.

James Burgh (1714-1775) British politician and writer

For the first time since the start of his second term, #Trump hit 50% #disapproval in #VoteHub's #polling #aggregation today. votehub.com/polls/

Presidents have come back from this. #Reagan bottomed out at something like 30% early in his first term, and then of course won re-election in a landslide. But Trump doesn't have that kind of political acumen.

If we have anything resembling a fair #election, 2026 will be a bloodbath, and I'm willing to bet 2028 as well. If we don't, well, it will be a bloodbath of a different kind.

There is a personality, or social style, or something, that I find unpleasant and very challenging to deal with. IDK its real name, but I think of it as smth like "instant and constant disapproval".

There are people who seem to use this as their coping mechanism for life. They find reasons to be annoyed with their environment and people in it. They don't hide it. There might be a small number of people they are generally pleased with, but I've seen that often those people just do what the constantly-annoyed person wants, which is of course quite nice.

I assume this approach to life gives people a sense of control or familiarity. I also think it might, for some people, be due to basically innate ongoing discomfort due to whatever biological processes lead to colicky baby syndrome, DMDD, and a host of related conditions.

In any case, it takes a toll on me. I find it deeply frustrating. I've spent a lot of my life learning to avoid those people, because I am almost never able (or inclined) to spend the time and energy needed to figure out how to live up to their internal standards day by day.

US Scholars to President Biden: You Must Act Now to Prevent Genocide in Gaza

For over 120 days now, we have witnessed the staggering civilian casualties of Israel’s war on Gaza which has, on average, killed one child every eight minutes, killed two mothers every hour, and caused 10 children to lose one or both legs in Gaza every day.
