Various Sound Effect Libraries - 1970-1985

As most people who know me, know I have worked in post production for TV & Radio, doing composition as well as foley & recording for it, amongst regular music production & recording work. Which means I have collected libraries of sounds for a long while.
Whether on CD, tape, DAT, reel to reel or vinyl

These are just a few of the ones I’ll be sampling & putting into my newly acquired Digitakt II from Elektron - to use in upcoming music, events & gigs I’ll be playing in the future.
A fun evening of sampling awaits!

The results of watching some drumming tutorials and applying to the drum-machine. Pretty happy with the results. Attached are three short clips from my Jamuary song "Star" demonstrating the new fills.

Had a bit of trouble finding three toms that fit together from the #DigiTakt's factory sounds. Perhaps I should try to get a soundpack 🤔

#Jamuary2025 day 15 desolationpark.se/jamuary-2025

Haven't been motivated the last couple of days, but today I made something that I'm pretty satisfied with.

Continuing experimenting with with databending samples, but more focus on melody, with the samples as percussion and background effects
All percussion samples except the kick are sourced from data (Amiga disk-images and trackermusic modules, like last time) and sequenced with the #Digitakt. Melodic parts played on the #Digitone.

I've set the intention of spending at least one hour each day on making music. The last two days I spent that just messing around with my #Digitakt, first day felt more productive, yesterday nothing seemed to work out. But I realized it doesn't matter if it doesn't result in any music I want to keep, making mistakes and experimenting are just as important. I do hope to get to a point where I can release some music on Bandcamp though, but that's at least a few months away. #musicProduction

#Jamuary2025 day 7

Inspired by @reillypascal 's post (link below) about creating noise-samples from data, I made a sample from an Amiga Workbench disk image and used as rhythm-track for this little tune: desolationpark.se/jamuary-2025

The variations are made by playing with the #Digitakt 's sample playback machines.

"The second day of #Jamuary, Desolation gave to me, an FM-flute in a #bonkWave tree."

When I told my partner I was doing #jamuary2025 she compiled a list of words for inspiration. Today's word is "tea". I started by recording water boiling, thinking I would make musique concrete or something. But ended up using it as a noisy backdrop for a nice melody. Everything else is made with factory sounds (a bit tweaked) of the #Digitone and #Digitakt

Okay so one CAN make it work by sending the program change AHEAD of the note using a "trigless trig" as it's called on the #digitakt. Requires some careful thinking though, especially if you want to have a track that triggers different sound effects from the #xv2020 somewhat randomly. Basically you need to "roll the dice ahead of time" and then make the actual trig only trigger if the previous "trigless trig" also triggered. 🤔 The terminology could use some work... 🤷

I want to hear about your Digitakt workflow. The only similar machine I've ever used was a headless M8 Tracker. I really liked the M8 workflow, and was heavily considering an M8 Model:02, but couldn't nab a preorder.

Writing a song on the M8 is easy: create a pattern for a track, save it to a slot. Arrange saved patterns, done.

With the DT you are saving all tracks with each pattern, so it's harder to arrange individual tracks, but maybe I'm missing something?

Bad: The #digitakt I bought used the other day has the (apparently well-known) "random click of death" issue. It will just "click" and then "click" and "click" some more, totally at random, doesn't matter whether something is playing or not.

Good: Seems like #elektron is honoring their 3-year warranty just based on the device itself, doesn't matter that I bought it used, doesn't matter who the original owner was.

Sad: Now I'll have to wait for a few weeks before getting it back. 😢
