#US's first onshore #waveenergy project gets green light
“US Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory estimates that wave energy has the potential to generate over 1,400 terawatt-hours per year,” so while this project won’t be huge, overall possible power generation from tidal power is nothing to sneeze at. Known more for its role in shipping fossil fuels, the Port of Los Angeles will host the new wave power pilot being built by #EcoWavePower and Shell.

Testing the Waters: #Scotland Surges Ahead on Ocean Power undark.org/2024/04/29/scotland

"Tidal and #WaveEnergy may be the largest untapped resources of #RenewableEnergy on the planet. Will they work? Waves, like the wind that produces them, are not a constant... another is to exploit the energy of the #tides. Of the two energy sources, tidal is more constant, given the tides’ regular-as-clockwork response to the push and pull of the moon and sun."

I've dabbled for a long time in ways to extract electricity or energy from the oceans - wave or tides. Stephen Salter laid the foundations for the field. His obit suggests his efforts may have been spiked by competing interests. But by then he was on to other things anyway.

I wonder if his type of thinker is possible these days?

I wonder where we'd be now if he'd not been sunk?
