If you are one of those who keep a cheap rod in the car for emergencies (not exactly a throwaway), you may eventually learn that the relative snazziness of your tackle doesn't have a whole lot to do with how well you fish.

It's time to buy the fishing licenses, do some stretching, have the rods rigged, and make sure the boat batteries are charged.

The question was not which fly I use, but how I needed to cast it to reach my target 
There were two options: a side cast through the 3-foot gap under the tree, or a roll cast through the 3-foot space between the trees growing on both banks

I won’t have time for fly fishing next weekend since my son has a soccer tournament, but I might try to find some nearby water for quick fly fishing or at least stroll around some creeks
The complex water columns and currents But the plunging water and bubbles create just enough cover to let me cast repeatedly without spooking the trout, until the fly is hit by a trout lurking in the deep water 
They are typically found in locations where fly casting is more challenging 
The fly needs to either go under the log or land just beyond it

[W]ether it's a brilliant job of fishing or just dumb luck, you'll now and then pull one off that you can't tell anyone about because it would sound too perfect and they would have to assume you most of it up. But whatever anyone thinks, you'll just have done something once thought impossible and that is the whole point of fishing.
Some of my best days fishing were just like this. Low heavy clouds, some light rain, and a little chop make for a great day of fishing. Put on your rain gear and you are dressed for sucess!
