There’s an apocryphal story that #Stanford’s Cardinal color and team name were inspired by those of #SanFrancisco’s #LowellHighSchool, the latter being the more venerable and better-known institution at the time of the university’s founding.
Maybe it’s too perfect a story to be true, but the current Lowell goalkeeper nonetheless wore the Cardinals’ team colors to represent, while her proud dad had to make due with Giants and Sutro wear.

Armchair refereeing a high school soccer playoff game, two things stand out about this play. (1) Attacking player #14 in white started in an offside position, so if she affected play, there should be a flag. (2) Though not intentional, she acted recklessly in her collision with the goalkeeper #00 in black—note how her hand hit the goalkeeper in her face after the keeper had deflected the ball.
Friends of Lowell members, who are also Lowell Alumni Association board members, “are both litigious and focused on preserving Lowell [High School]’s status quo" and have moved $250k in a potential litigation fund to sue SFUSD.
