Brent Sleeper<p>There’s an apocryphal story that <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/Stanford" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Stanford</span></a>’s Cardinal color and team name were inspired by those of <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/SanFrancisco" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SanFrancisco</span></a>’s <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/LowellHighSchool" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LowellHighSchool</span></a>, the latter being the more venerable and better-known institution at the time of the university’s founding. </p><p>Maybe it’s too perfect a story to be true, but the current Lowell goalkeeper nonetheless wore the Cardinals’ team colors to represent, while her proud dad had to make due with Giants and Sutro wear.</p>

(1) Attacking player #14 in white started in an offside position, so if she affected play, there should be a flag.
