#l10n #KDEPlasma #Kaidan

Looking to stay in touch with friends and family? KDE to the rescue.

Konversation is a user-friendly Internet Relay Chat (IRC) client by KDE.

Kaidan is a user-friendly and modern chat app for every device. that uses the open communication protocol XMPP (Jabber).

NeoChat is a chat app that lets you take full advantage of the Matrix network.

Ruqola is a client for Rocket.Chat.

Replied to Dim Simple

@dimsimple blabber is unmaintained, it may be still available on F-droid but won't be updated. I highly recommend you to replace it by #Conversations or a Conversations fork like #Monocles chat (I'm using this one).

On GNU/Linux #Kaidan uses only modern norms but this causes compatibity issues. For exemple it uses only OMEMO2 which is not yet widely implemented but also for groupchats it implements only MIX and not MUC. I would recommend #Gajim or #Dino

Has anyone ever managed to get XMPP working on both Android and Linux with OMEMO encryption? I'm using Blabber.im on mobile and Kaidan on Linux and the encryption simply does not work even though they both claim to be OMEMO-capable. The message gets through but Blabber complains that it's not encrypted. I can't turn it on because Kaidan complains that my contact doesn't use OMEMO (they do). Is this some weird versioning problem?

@rival @arnaudj @vanitasvitae No, #OMEMO:2 is not compatible with the legacy version, and #Conversations AFAIK only implements the later (and Kaidan only the former).

To my knowledge, only 3 clients implement OMEMO:2 so far:
- #Libervia (I'm the lead dev of this one, also implements legacy OMEMO and OX)
- #Kaidan (only OMEMO:2)
- #Dino in an experimental branch, not yet merged, and OMEMO legacy is in stable branch.

So you need both legacy and OMEMO:2 to be compatible with everything.

Good morning, and welcome to Kaidan Saturday! This month we throw away all the boring tales of honor and revenge and watch spooky tales of honor and revenge instead!

Today, a kaidan double feature! First an early screen appearance by the Yokai Monsters in Ghost Story Of The Seven Wonders Of Honjo!

Yeah and Moxxy <--> Kaidan doesn't work either. At this point I don't think even Moxxy <--> Moxxy would work.

I don't know what's broken but it's probably not my fault. God damn it, I'm going to have to put this one on the back-burner too and come back to it once I can get ahold of papatutuwawa again (and/or the
#Kaidan devs) so we can figure out what exactly is happening...

I have been thinking for a while about switching from #MacOS to #Linux, mostly because I don't care for the direction #Apple is taking. So I set up Ubuntu 24.04 on a new machine but removed #snaps using this video: youtube.com/watch?v=YBWONxeN-m

The issue I have found with #flatpak is that they have no sound output. I tried installing a couple of different #XMPP programs (#Dino and #Kaidan) and neither would output sound when a message arrived. Finally found #Gajim (apt install) and that works!
