"There is some chance that the brands of HBC, if not the company itself, might live on.
"Another big Canadian retailer, Canadian Tire, bought HBC’s intellectual property rights. And, a billionaire from British Columbia, Weihong Liu, bought the leases to some of the chain"s stores and reportedly says she has plans to reopen."

"End of an era after 355 years: Hudson's Bay Company permanently closed"

The English Royal Charter of 1670, issued by King Charles II, incorporated the Hudson’s Bay Company as a #fur trading giant in the Rupert’s Land (Canada). The company has been a fixture in #Canada 's commercial landscape since then, but closed all its stores on 1st June.

It has been the final week of the retail business for #HudsonsBay , with both stores in Winnipeg down to selling furniture and fixtures in the remaining few days.
Will be interesting to see what #CanadianTire does with their trademarks in the future. They got a bargain buying it all for thirty million.
The downtown building, which closed as a store in 2020, is presently undergoing a complete transformation into Indigenous-led Wehwehneh Bahgahkinahgohn ("it is visible").

Canadian Tire and Dollarama

Is this the timeline where we end up with 400 years of Canadian Tire.

"Why when our stores first opened it was nothing but a wasteland of parking lots and our lowest prices of the random period we came up with for that flyer, but now in here in 2425 we are proud to announce we finally stopped letting rando hungover kids work on your space cars"
