It took two years of shopping the song around Nashville before #BobbyBare recorded it on his album Bare at the urging of #ShelSilverstein. Bare's version did not catch on and was never released as a single, so Schlitz recorded it himself.

Evidently when "The All American Boy" was playing in 1958 and (mostly) 1959, I was listening the other way. I gave this a try at Bandcamp and bought it; but for some reason, evidently it is no longer available there. Too bad but we still have YouTube. This track is really quite good.
