Nabil Boukili (PVDA-PTB): Thank you, Prime Minister, for that clear answer: Belgium will enforce the arrest warrant against Mr Netanyahu if he comes to Belgium. (...) the credibility of European countries is being called into question at global level. What little credibility we have left, I believe we now must exercise and apply international law. I take note, Prime Minister, and hope that other European leaders will take the same position. Leaders such as Mr Macron in France need to be reminded that international law cannot be used in variable geometry depending on our interests and who is being targeted. International law applies to everyone. Without justice, there can be no peace in this world.

Rajae Maouane (Ecolo-Groen): Thank you, Prime Minister, you have not disappointed me. I was reassured by your clear and unambiguous answer. Belgium needs to set an example. It must also continue its efforts and be able to sanction Israel economically & diplomatically, and cease all cooperation. It is also time for Belgium to recognise the State of Palestine without delay. This is what civil society is calling for, as well as many diplomats in Europe and around the world. I therefore appeal to the parties involved in the negotiations, at least those that claim to be progressive and those that are in favour of recognising Palestine. I don't expect anything from the MR or the N-VA, but Vooruit, Les Engagés and CD&V, history is watching you and asking you to be on the right side of it.

For our country, it is crucial that serious crimes, such as crimes against humanity and war crimes, do not go unpunished and that the victims of these crimes are also heard and compensated. Because without justice, there can never be lasting peace.

I believe we are living in a time when the international legal order is under incredible pressure, and we must resist this. More than ever, it is important to confirm that Belgium - and not just Belgium, because it is not alone - and the more than 120 countries that have ratified the Rome Statute must shoulder their responsibilities.

When the International Criminal Court issues an arrest warrant for alleged war crimes, Belgium assumes its responsibility. So if a wanted person is on our territory, we must execute an arrest warrant. There cannot be a double standard here."

Rajae Maouane (Ecolo-Groen): Prime Minister, I am raising an issue that directly affects the reputation & credibility of our country, the respect for international law and our obligations as a signatory to the Rome Statute. The ICC recently issued an arrest warrant for Mr Netanyahu and others accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity. These extremely serious facts go to the heart of the values we defend as a democracy committed to the rule of law and justice. Several European countries, aware of their responsibilities, have already announced that they will fully implement the mandates of the ICC. The Netherlands, the seat of the Court, has expressed its commitment unambiguously, as have Ireland & Spain. These examples show that it is entirely possible to put justice before political interests. In the face of this, France's position, between ambiguity and retreat, is a very alarming signal. This incomprehensible and scandalous attitude weakens the fight against impunity for the most serious crimes. As a country deeply committed to international justice (...) Belgium cannot and must not follow this example. We have a historic and moral responsibility to defend the victims of atrocious crimes and to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice. (...) Prime Minister, my question is clear, simple and direct. Is Belgium unambiguously committed to apply the arrest warrants issued by the ICC, including against Mr Netanyahu as soon as he sets foot on Belgian soil?

Firstly because it recognises that the Palestinian people are being subjected to war crimes and crimes against humanity. These facts have been made official by an international court. It is also historic because it is the first time that a leader who is an ally of the West has been convicted by the ICC. This condemnation of the Israeli Prime Minister is also a condemnation of Western countries, given their unconditional support for the State of Israel. If Israel is bombing Gaza today, it is thanks to American bombs. More than 20 billion euros worth of American weapons are contributing to the war in Gaza. If women and children are being killed in Gaza today, it's thanks to German weapons, which pass through the port of Antwerp, in our country! So we are complicit in these war crimes and crimes against humanity. One might have thought that everyone would unite around such a legal decision and apply it. As we have seen the French President Mr Macron is sowing doubt and ambiguity about this decision and is talking about possible immunity for Mr Netanyahu. It is shameful, Prime Minister, to call into question international law and a judicial decision by the ICC. Prime Minister, I will ask just one very simple question so that the answer is clear. Will the Belgian State arrest Mr Netanyahu or let him go free if he comes to Belgium?
