I like to clarify why we don’t have a verification system like the with the blue thingy next to your name.

On the or at least we all are equal. No person is ‘higher in ranks’ or better than everyone else, our point is exactly the opposite. We want equality right?

We have plenty of methods to prove who you are on other platforms, we don’t need a badge for that 😉 Ofcourse you can use it however you like but this would be the reason, I’ll hope you’ll understand

@stux I love that explanation. No one should be better than anyone else on social media because they are more well known than me.

@stux which is what I love. Besides that there is no quote tooting!

@stux A fine idea, but... Not quite. Fediverse has two main tiers: instance owners and members. The power of sysops pretty much ensures they are “higher in ranks” than others, regardless.

@stux And anywhere I see this :-> 😉, I know it's you!!

@Agnostic_Indian @stux If you've logged in from, adding :verified: after your username will give you a verified tick. It's an emoji for birdsite users suffering from their own sense of insecurity. Some also seem to be using it for "fun".

Similarly, adding :unverified: after your username will give you a cross symbol. The platform is purely open source. You're free to add what you want.

@stux Blue Badge/ Tick is a symbol of hierarchy... one may also call it Brahamanical hierarchy... Smash all type of hierarchies be it patriarchy/ caste/ religion/ language/ race... BLUE TICK...

i like that explanation.
#keybase might be relevant if required for some reason.

@stux I like this reason. This is how it should be.

It's not about equality but the problem it gonna create 😅

@stux People crave's just an innate human behaviour !!

@stux and this is what will keep me returning to this site

You are absolutely right Stux. We want equality, at least on this platform. We have thousands ways to prove who we are on other platform.

I am very happy that there's someone out there who understand the need of EQUALITY and its virtual necessity for the people who are fighting for it in their day to day reality, in their lived life.

Thanks for putting your efforts in creating online space of equality.

@stux an authentication process will be helpful to famous persons as their opinions got strong influence on mass if somebody fakes such personalities might end up in big chaos its already happened in case of a famous politician from India later his office issued a notice to clarify it

@st_in That's why we can 'verify' ourself with the backlinks to other social media and 😃

@stux hope it will address the issue effectively as you can find only one right while wrong have no any such limitations

Perfectly fine. Well who needs the blue ticks. We're cozy among friends and discussion. That's it.

@stux wow. Now I like this instance even more. Love Mastodon.

@stux I love that we can use the icons to signify so much more. Flags, OS, Softwares, Emotions!

@stux Can't tell you how grateful I am for all the help you have given me even when I am not part of your server. How incredible you are taking care and meeting people expectations so that they feel more comfortable using mastodon. So thank you for everything you have done.

@stux Any button for translation as we see lots of toots in foreign languages.

@Fameen No not yet, how ever you can filter on toot lang from your account settings 😃

@stux Hope this platform stays content driven and unbiased.

@stux Sad thing is that the bird somehow perverted the idea behind the badge. Guess it was intended to be some sort of proof of authenticity. Problem is, they only offered it to VIP and therefor the badge turned into something only the "better" part of tweeps were going to receive. The "I can see its really you" mutated into "wow.. you must be important, as you got the VIP badge".

@stux Makes sense to me. However, I have seen people with blue checkmarks in their names here already (I've been on this site for about half an hour). Am I to then take it that some people need their little blue comfort blankets even here?

@Nihilizt The blue tick is just a custom emoji what people use in their names 🙂 It doesn’t add anything haha

@stux Yes, I know. My point is that there are people who feel the need to add that emoji to their name as if it actually means something, as though it were some sort of comfort blanket to them. I find that simultaneously sad and hilarious

@stux okay fine, I think k the I should switch on twitter again.
