It can take a bit longer and be a bit more effort to get connected on the Fediverse as there's no algorithm, but the connections tend to be more meaningful once they happen.
@feditips Just tell me where are all of the people with pet rats. I saw tons of them on tw*tter but I can't find any here.
Have you tried the hashtag #rats? I just found one in the first result.
@feditips Not nearly enough of them. Also #RatsOfMastodon, but again too few compared to #DogsOfMastodon or #CatsOfMastodon which will give you dozens per day.
Sorry to hear it isn't here already, this place is still growing (it's gone from 2 million to 10 million in less than a year). For some topics the first people have to get things started.
You could follow all rat-related hashtags and post to the rats group (@ rats @ a.gup.pe but without the spaces).
Groups federate more widely than hashtags, they can be useful for communities.
Also, Kbin will be providing a more reddit-like format, could start a rats magazine on a Kbin server?
