Five years after mocking India's colonial past, #Marc #Andreesen, one of Silicon Valley’s foremost venture capitalists and a member of Facebook’s board, now wants to make money off India’s fancy for cryptos.

Andreesen’s venture, #a16z [founded in 2009 by Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz], along with Coinbase Ventures, has invested $260 million in Series C round of CoinSwitch Kuber, the four-year-old Indian start-up which is an aggregator of crypto exchanges.

Existing investors Paradigm, Ribbit Capital, Sequoia Capital and Tiger Global have also participated in the round.

Following the massive fund infusion, CoinSwitch has become the country’s second crypto Unicorn, valued at $1.9 billion, after CoinDCX hit $1.1 billion after a $90 million Series C round in August.

@cdarwin

Cryotocurrency is faerie gold with national security implications.

@Npars01 @cdarwin

If there was a digital currency that actually functioned as a currency, it could dissolve national borders.

@ludosansfin @cdarwin

The dissolution of borders is a recipe for world war.

@Npars01 @cdarwin I'm confused. Who would fight in a world war if there were no borders (i.e. no nations (as they are currently conceived))?

@ludosansfin @cdarwin

The oil oligarchs who paid $445 million to get Republicans into office want oil-rich areas with small populations to be looted of their natural resources.

Greenland. Antarctica. Northern Canada. Alaska.

Oil wars have often been fought over ill-defined or unprotected borders.

They'd fight a world war for greed.

@Npars01 @cdarwin Ah! I see better where you're coming from and would guess you are better informed than me on the topic.

I admit I was imagining my fictional, finctional, digital currency would replace current currencies and strip the wealthy of their relative strength.

In that hypothetical, do you still see corpo-national global war? Is such a currency too fanciful to consider?

@ludosansfin @cdarwin

Cryptocurrency is a fraud intended to supplant the US dollar as a global reserve currency & destabilize financial markets.

It's used for organized crime, sanctions evasion, drug trafficking, cyber warfare, human trafficking, CASM, money laundering, and tax evasion.

@Npars01 @cdarwin in crypto's current iterations, I wholeheartedly agree.

@Npars01 @ludosansfin @cdarwin

The rationals they are proclaiming through the media sound the same old tripes that announced the narcissistic rational for empiric genocidal conquests of resource and riches from centuries past. Time for humans to stand forth and refuse this destruction of the variety and creativity of human existance in the name of a few ephemeral over grown childish egos.
