Yesterday was the Postal Worker Union's National Day of Action, and I attended a protest myself. I now have an APWU "Hands off our public postal service!" sign to take to Tesla Takedown protests.
Here's what was going on around the country, since it's mostly on local news:
This is an issue that will hit rural communities hardest! I grew up on a dirt road on a rural mail route, and without the Post Office there would have been no delivery anyone could afford. That's still true, and many people's lives depend on mail order medications.
The attack on the Postal Service is waking a lot of people up to the danger of this regime. As terrible as all this is, at least it will provoke the bipartisan resistance we need to see.
Here's hoping.
I was a dirt-road kid, too, and the Post was where my elderly neighbors did their banking. Between the local newspaper and the Post, we barefooted kids were connected to the rest of the world.
Now, the paper is gone, and the Post is under threat.
In a totally unrelated topic, I've read that people who are deeply isolated tend to be "better" consumers than people who have strong social connections. So, there's that.
