Had an hour before going to a show last night so I slapped some electronics on a hat. I'm heckin stoked on the effect.

Interestingly, I have to place my 18650 battery at the front inside of the hat because the halo tilt doesn't allow for it at the back. *Gestures at physics*

I'm using a Pixelblaze LED controller from @wizard (wirelessly controlled on my iPad), and micro COB LEDs that are in my LED guide:

(dis a 🧵)

As this posts takes off, I just wanna mention that my LED guide is open source and made to be shareable and free forever.

But it does point to my Patreon (which is also public & free), and I just lost a $30 subscriber.

My Patreon only brings in a very small amount right now ($200 a month), but while I'm between jobs and scraping by that income is actually essential.

Hey! Tell ya what. If I get five subscribers today (any amount) I'll make an LED hat tutorial 😉 💖

I'm at two new subscribers on Patreon today! Thank uuuuu!! What a lovely and helpful reaction ✨ I absolutely will make a walk-through video if I reach five new subscribers today. At any amount.

FOUR Patreon subscribers today!! Only one more to go!! 🥰

@LaserMistress @wizard omg that's so awesome! Also TIL about the "addressable COB" LED strips. I think I'm in need of some, and a witch hat that actually fits my head 🧙

What's the pixel density on yours?

@ayke @wizard COB doesn't work the same as standard 5050 strips when it comes to "density". They seem to only be a bit more dense then the fairly dense 2020 strips tho. I can't even imagine how many pixels are in a meter, but *goes and measures* this 46 inch chunk has 195 pixels.

@LaserMistress @wizard
Could you get it to change patterns based on ambient noise?

@SoftwareTheron @wizard yeah, the controller I'm using has an add-on sensor board that's real easy to use. It has a mic, aux in and light and movement detection.

@LaserMistress@mstdn.social @wizard@leds.social HOLY SHIT THAT RULES. I can't believe that only took you an hour. Well done. 👏

@LaserMistress @wizard

WOW!! SO KEWL!!
Absolutely "enchanting" !!

( At one point, it looked like a section of light was following your head motion. Is that a possibility with your controller board? :- )

@SaguaroLynx @wizard it is possible with the accelerometer in the sensor board, but here it's just good filming and head motion timing.

@LaserMistress

@wizard

... I very definitely have to get some high-density led strips.

@LaserMistress
Oooohhh...
My 12 year old autistic daughter would love this!
The only thing she loves more than sequined clothing (or "armour-plated" as she refers to them) is flashing lights, which is why her bedroom is decked out with LEDs around the ceiling.
Going to have to try something like this!

@stuartb @Lazarou

Me and your daughter are twinsies. Tell her she is the coolest from me, and to never let anyone tell her these things are childish as she grows.

And I'm going to borrow her genius "armor" language, that's hecka brilliant.
