Been really busy since New Year's, and then the fires started, but I finally got this vlog of the Rose Parade in Pasadena edited!

Was debating on not showing this off at all cause it's so late, but I think it'd be good for people to see what Pasadena's like when it's at its best, as opposed to everything going on in the news right now.

Also, I brought my new friend with me!

I went in 2003 & 2004. Caltech Alumni had a program for alumni and students and their families. Going to the park across the freeway in the afternoon to see the floats up close was amazing! The smells just don’t come across on the television!

No, but many get some sort of award. The Lutheran Hour and smaller cities’ floats don’t usually win anything. The floats that are basically ads for the sponsors also don’t win anything.

No float is allowed more than one trophy. So there’s a heirarchy. (Sweepstakes and Queen’s trophies take priority. Others are more specialized, like the Mayor’s trophy which can only go to a city entry.)
And over the years, you learn which awards line up with your personal taste and which are most impressive to earn.

Random aside for people watching the Rose Parade:

The museum that is in many of the shots on TV is the Norton Simon Museum, and is IMHO the best art museum in the Los Angeles area. Certainly the most underrated.

Tired of LACMA and the Getty? Come to Pasadena.
