Hamas is the only major entity IN DECADES to successfully demonstrate both the will and the capability to strike back strategically against Israel's ongoing #EthnicCleansing of their homeland. Demanding that it relinquish either power OR arms as a precondition of #IsraelAtWarCrimes so much as starting to PRETEND it cares about international law again is both geopolitically indefensible and morally hypocritical.

Which I suppose makes it pretty on-brand for us. 😖 #Astaghfirullah

Al Jazeera · Hamas denies it expressed willingness to disarm, slams Witkoff’s Gaza tripBy Al Jazeera

#IsraelAtWarCrimes seems DETERMINED to reinforce the lesson that peaceful resistance is naive & pointless, and that violence that shatters the illusion of security that securitized #apartheid provides is the only thing that actually gets Zionists' attention.

We--and Israelis, as several of my friends & classmates who used to lead Mossad, Shin Bet & the IDF have been emphasizing--ignore the REAL lessons that #KingBibiAntipas and his genocidal response to the 7 October attacks are teaching Palestinians--and anti-colonialists around the world--at our peril.

Those who fail to learn the lessons of history are condemned TO REPEAT THEM.

Al Jazeera · Who was Awdah Hathaleen, Palestinian activist killed by an Israeli settler?By Al Jazeera Staff

ON PICKING OUR ALLIES WISELY

Once upon a time, there were millions of hard-working Americans suffering from economic anxiety. There were millions of God-fearing Americans who didn't want their kids having to share sports or restrooms or showers with people who "felt like" they were the same gender but had been born the other one. There were millions of Americans who didn't want the economy sacrificed on the altar of environmentalism. Let's set aside, for the moment, whether these fears actually made sense: reasonable people can and will disagree on that--but each can be felt and argued in good faith: I know, because as a conservative, I have some sympathy for them.

Along came Donald Trump, making sympathetic noises and promising that "he alone" could and would DO something about them. They scarcely noticed the racists and misogynists and antisemites and anti-vax nutcases and democracy-hating billionaires and LITERAL RUSSIAN AGENTS who were following in his wake. And then one day they woke up and found they were in bed with the people who had actually manufactured the very problems they'd been concerned about. People who wanted not just to exercise THEIR rights to life, liberty & the pursuit of happiness according to their OWN beliefs, but TO DENY THOSE RIGHTS to their neighbors who saw those issues differently.

I mention this because I just saw the below in a post on LinkedIn FROM my connection Peter Hotez--and it clicked with the above AND with an issue I've been talking about with my friends, colleagues, and family members protesting #IsraelAtWarCrimes, decrying our perennial role as #GenocidesBodyguards, and demanding #JusticeForPalestine.

Because once upon a time, there were millions of people sharing each of these concerns, who hold them in good faith. I know this, because I'm ONE OF THEM. And when #KingBibiAntipas buried warnings from my friends & classmates running Egyptian intelligence so he could use the 7 October attacks to turbocharge the century-old #EthnicCleansing of Palestine into a full-blown #genocide, we found ourselves with people falling over themselves to be our allies. And we scarcely noticed that among them were also small but vocal & energetic numbers who were there because they were funded by Iranian intelligence, or who were there because they were antisemites who JUST HATED JEWS, or who were there because they thought America was the source of all evil in the world, or who just wanted to get us fighting each other.

And it just hit me that in BOTH of these cases, on the political right AND left, there's a common thread--and we need to wake up to it before we find ourselves protesting weakly that we did #nazi it coming....

From the story: "A third U.S. official said there's growing skepticism inside the Trump administration about Netanyahu — a sense that his trigger finger is too itchy and he's too disruptive. 'Netanyahu is sometimes like a child who just won't behave.'" #IsraelAtWarCrimes #KingBibiAntipas

Gee, dude, does that remind you of someone...? 🤔 #ToddlerInChief

From the article: The DOJ calls for "civil denaturalization" in the case of "war crimes," "extrajudicial killings," "human rights abuses," ....

Somehow I'm not holding my breath for this to be applied to Americans who have traveled overseas to fight for #IsraelAtWarCrimes....

As I've been highlighting for years, America's lopsided support for #IsraelAtWarCrimes traces to the grip of my generation (and prior) on power--generations whose perspectives on the region were formed (and often ossified) back during the Cold War, when Israel was "our guy" in a truly existential struggle against godless Communism.

We're long overdue to stand aside (I have!)...but one fact is inescapable: we're aging out of the system one way or the other (May God take me when He is most pleased with me 🤲)--and being succeeded, like it or not, by generations who don't even REMEMBER the Cold War, and grew up seeing only the region's most economically, militarily, and politically powerful country COMMITTING #GENOCIDE AND #ETHNICCLEANSING against an oppressed and dispossessed people no one else is willing to fight for--while OUR OWN nation, who they grew up being told was the guardian of the rules-based international order, instead standing by with a truncheon as #GenocidesBodyguards.

That's not the America they want--and they're fast becoming the majority in the voting booth...and (if only at the hands of the Grim Reaper) EVENTUALLY even in Washington.

A sea change in U.S. policy is coming.

Al Jazeera · Mamdani’s New York victory boosts pro-Palestine politics in USBy Ali Harb

#IsraelAtWarCrimes has been attacking "an Iran without nuclear weapons," more-or-less at will, FOR DECADES, even as international monitors confirmed there was NO evidence Iran WAS TRYING TO DELEVOP nuclear weapons.

Maybe an Iran WITH nuclear weapons stands a better chance of being "able to rebuild and do a good job." 🤔

And maybe SOMEBODY in the region having A BALANCED NUCLEAR DETERRENT AGAINST (illegaly) nuclear-armed Israel stands a better chance OF BRINGING PEACE TO a troubled region.... 🤲
