Overall just a super sloppy performance from Ireland. Apart from a couple of beautiful moments, nothing worked at all. Every stat in the AB's favour. The tape viewing will not be fun. #IREvNZL

Dear #Ireland fans,

I’m seeing some “quarterfinal hoodoo” and “if *this* team can’t do it, will we ever?” chat and … well, if you just need to vent, that’s fine, but please don’t actually believe any of that.

As a kiwi old enough to remember every WC, I saw a lot of great All Blacks - players, coaches, and teams - “fail” in that 24-year stretch between WC victories.

How many World Cups did Jonah Lomu win? Yeah.

Does it suck? It absolutely does.

But this Ireland team is so much more than this result. Keep building, growing, excelling. A WC victory is in your future. The team that wins may not even be as good as this current one. That’s the weird luck of these tournaments. The real goal should be to become, and remain, the team that everyone tests themselves against.

Anyway, thanks for an epic match. Sorry you came out on the wrong side of the score line.

It has taken me a day to come to grips with it, but the man of the match for the All Blacks yesterday has to be Wayne Barnes.

Still gutted about the rugby last night. Going in I had total faith that Ireland could win the game. The whole squad were playing so well, and everything seemed to be falling into place this year.
