Mike LeeI came across this weathered gem—the Old Cottonwood Church—while driving near Havre, Montana. I had just spread my mother’s ashes at the nearby Milk River, a place she dearly loved. Grief had dulled my instinct to stop, but a mile up the road I turned around, remembering that she, a photography lover herself, would’ve told me not to miss the shot.
This photo, taken in soft mid-morning light, carries more than a subject—it holds a moment of memory, emotion, and tribute. I hope to return to this part of the prairie one day and see if it still stands.
