in_sympathy<p>My good old Goal Zero Venture 30 power bank died recently - lit up one blue LED in the middle and never turned on again. I emailed GoalZero asking for any clues and if they have none - maybe a hint on disassembling this glued down thingie, but obviously - and as always - they didn't reply. </p><p>So I cracked it open and... I wish it was a cap, but turns out it's this UCS1002-2 IC - I wonder if it's worth replacing... </p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/repair" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>repair</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/electronics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>electronics</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/electronicsrepair" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>electronicsrepair</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/goalzero" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>goalzero</span></a></p>
Delta Wye<p>Using a little <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/solarpower" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>solarpower</span></a> today to charge one of my power banks. Above is the modern <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/GoalZero" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>GoalZero</span></a> 10, below is older 1st/2nd gen GoalZero 7.</p><p>Biggest flaw with the GoalZero 7 is that if the panels get shaded, they will stop outputting power until the load is removed and reattached. If you are anywhere with even slight cloud cover this is a huge problem. The 10 will auto-restart after being shaded.</p><p>I kind of like the older one’s packaging but the newer one is more streamlined.</p>
Morgan Aldridge<p>I’m doubting the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/TS80P" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TS80P</span></a> will be useful for thicker gauge automotive wiring, but with its higher wattage, maybe it’ll surprise me (especially if I pick up an different tip.) Certainly will be useful for thinner gauge automotive wiring and the portability is insane.</p><p>I’ve used my old 110V AC soldering iron off-grid using my <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/GoalZero" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GoalZero</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Yeti400" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Yeti400</span></a>’s 300W pure-sine AC inverter in the past (though, recently, not effectively), so will probably pick up a butane soldering iron for larger off-grid tasks.</p>
gittaca<p>PV inspector cat is confident about its owner's device charging approach.</p><p><a href="https://chaos.social/tags/CaturDay" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CaturDay</span></a> <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/Sabagato" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Sabagato</span></a> <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/GoalZero" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GoalZero</span></a></p>

This may be a horrible idea but…
I got a #GoalZero Yeti 300X for Christmas. It is intended as a battery backup for the house, but I thought it might work well as a replacement for my failing #UPS for my #Homeassistant server, #RaspberryPi NAS, and internet. I have the Yeti set to battery saver. The equipment pulls an average of 40 watts. Every 1.5 hours the yeti gets down to 80% and the spends 15 minutes to charge back to 85%.
I’m worried that I’m shortening the lifespan but it works well.

Power's been out since 1:30 a.m. all over #Seattle. Lots of people in the same boat per the outage map.

Because we lose power 4-5 times each year due to high winds and whatnot, a few months ago we invested in a #GoalZero power bank which can power lots of stuff (including both our CPAPs) for 2-3 days if needed. Not shilling for them, just glad we have it!
