@pomegranate_stew @FrazzledBrynn #BabyGoatCountdown is what I used this year!
Last goat baby of the year just dropped! Right on her due date.
With 15 babies from 10 pregnancies, that concludes #BabyGoatCountdown for 2025. (I have to actually sit down and write some notes for this year's birth record at some point soon before I forget everything...aaahhhh too much happening)
Surprise goat babies!! (It's the end of the kidding season, I was clearly not keeping track as well at the end of breeding season as at the beginning... First oopsie for this #BabyGoatCountdown )
My 13yo decided to throw in some car names, so the babies are Kia and Cybertruck. The latter due to safety issues on exiting... Mama and babies are all doing great now, though!
Good morning from baby goat land. Next #BabyGoatCountdown isn't until next week, so please enjoy yesterday's brand new goat (and another goat on a horse).
when in doubt, follow #babygoatcountdown
Remember how I said that I was wrong about that one goat's due date? Yeah, I was right. One nice big, healthy new baby with very long ears! (So she also messed up my prediction about Lamancha short-ear genes dominating over Nubian long-ear genes...genetics is wild.) #BabyGoatCountdown

The second goat who was due yesterday still didn't have babies yet! (So I"m glad that I ended up turning off my alarm and going back to sleep at 2am rather than walking out to the barn...) The baby from yesterday is EVEN CUTER! Hopefully one or two more babies will be born today (again, she will probably will wait until I have to head to campus...) #BabyGoatCountdown
Going to do one last barn check before bed and hopefully there's another baby out there. Otherwise I guess I'm getting up at 2am to check on things again...sigh. At least it's not -20C out for #BabyGoatCountdown round 2!
I love getting home and finding a brand new, super healthy baby goat! Round 2 of the #BabyGoatCountdown is here! Looks like the Lamancha-tiny-ears genes win out over Nubian-giant-ears genes for at least 2 generations. Interesting.
Bonus: Llama with a fine hay hat.
No new babies yet. But the "old" babies are sure cute snuggling in the hay pile! #BabyGoatCountdown
No new goat babies overnight! The two mamas who are due today are probably going to wait until this afternoon when I said I'd visit a classroom in Regina to talk about astronomy... Luckily it's going to be nice and warm today, so my help shouldn't be needed. #BabyGoatCountdown
Good morning from goat land, where we have no new baby goats yet from #BabyGoatCountdown round 2. But we do have bouncy babies on hay bales under very dramatic skies.
This weekend I cooked lots of amazing farm food, made (and ate) lots of cheese, shoveled lots of manure, fixed some fences, got the goats out onto grass in the electronet for the first time this season, snuggled all the goats, rearranged the mama goat stall order, set up a couple of broody hens on eggs (and one on a chick). I am SO TIRED, but in a very good way.
Round 2 of the #BabyGoatCountdown is starting! 2 mamas are due on Tuesday.
Looks like a good chance of auroras tonight, but I'm on a super early sleep schedule right now so I doubt I'm going to stay awake until it's dark enough to look. Maybe I'll wake up in the middle of the night...but not a good enough chance of auroras to set an alarm.
Plus, round 2 of the #BabyGoatCountdown starts very soon and I need to bank some good sleep nights while I can!
I totally ran out of time and energy for posting yesterday, but the first round of the #BabyGoatCountdown is done! Mama #5 had 2 healthy babies yesterday right before I needed to go teach my 2nd-to-last class of the semester.
That brings us to 9 babies from 5 mamas (6 girls and 3 boys, woo beating the odds!) There will be a few more baby goats in about a month, from the yearlings who were bred a little bit later, so #BabyGoatCountdown will return (and loads of photos in the meantime)
Good morning.
I was pretty sure that last mama was going to have her babies last night (sure enough that I got up at 2am to check, sigh). But no new babies yet!
But the ones I have already are pretty darn cute!
Only one goat left to have babies for this round of the #BabyGoatCountdown. In theory she's due tomorrow, but there's a decent chance she didn't actually get bred when I thought she did. So, at least one more night of 2am barn checks.
The second round of babies will start in about a month. I'm pretty happy with how this batch has gone so far!
7 very healthy, large babies, from 4 healthy mamas. Excellent.
Also got all the babies out in the sun today. It got up to almost 10C which was AMAZING but holy cow that's a lot of mud... Luckily the babies are very good at finding good places to take naps in between attempting to frolic and meeting the other animals. #BabyGoatCountdown
