Don’t be tricked into sharing a meme that’s going around of a joyous photo of #KamalaHarris an #TimWalz with the caption “Strength Through Joy”. The history of this phrase is that it was the name of a program implemented in Germany during the late 1930s.
It’s a trap!! lol

@curtisysmith
What's the point here? That phrases all have origins? Oh no!! Hitler once said 'Have a nice day,' so now we can't say that!! 😅

@unclesam The point is to avoid the intended purpose of making a fool of progressives. I don’t ever use the phrase ‘triumph of the will’

America (Sam's Version)

@curtisysmith
So, they're using a slogan about joy just to secretly make fun of progressives? That seems like a stretch.

@unclesam Yes. That’s exactly what they are doing

@curtisysmith
Do you think everyone who uses the phrase 'rule of thumb' advocates for domestic violence? That phrase has a dark history. Don't you think it's more likely that they're actually just advocating to find strength through the power positive thinking? As a progressive myself, I don't see the connection that specifically.

@unclesam, @curtisysmith

To the pseudonymous participant here:

Searching around a little, I'd say it looks more like a typical deliberate smear move than an innocuous use of a literal phrase. Considering that it doesn't appear to be a genuine campaign slogan and it does appear to have the traits of similar ploys, I don't think it's more likely, no. You're certainly entitled to think it is, though.

@unclesam I’m just saying that some people might not want to be the butt of an inside joke.

@curtisysmith
The fact that you think a slogan about 'joy' is actually meant to secretly be a 'gotcha' tells me you have a victim complex.

@unclesam Given the context of the accounts I’ve seen post it, it’s absolutely a gotcha. Without that context, you’ve reached a different conclusion.
