Example: A writer might wonder if “high-maintenance” was used to describe people in the 1960s. From this result, I’m inclined to think not.
The graph suggests that “high maintenance” was in use fairly consistently from 1950 to 2019, while “high-maintenance” with a hyphen was very low from 1950 to 1990, then rose steeply, peaking around 2015 and remaining significantly higher than it was before 1990.
