@kraks, while the colour shifts can be quite wild, I am really enjoying the image quality and detail that old slide film preserves - it holds on to far more than c41 film and, I think, more than black and white.
As a rule of thumb, I've been shooting at box for E6 up to 20 years past expiry and EI+1 and Pull-1 for stock that is older than that. A couple boxes of 4x5 allowed me to experiment and that is what I settled upon.
