There’s some bad news for Windows users who want to use all of the built-in features of the operating system and its integrated apps. Going forward, Microsoft is restricting features in two iconic apps, which you’ll need to unlock with a paid subscription.

Oh FFS! Everything dies. Paint has been a mainstay forever. And Notepad is just part of the OS. Ridiculous.
@osnews The good news is that it's only the "AI" features they're paywalling.
IMO, that's a good thing in itself, but I wouldn't be surprised to find out that it's a trial to see how the market responds.
@osnews I'm guessing not many bother to actually open the article and READ it, and see that they're paywalling AI features - which makes sense, AI isn't free or cheap yet.
This isn't an argument against or for Windows or Linux, or some other alternative. This isn't surprising in the slightest, nor should it be.
@alextecplayz Arguably, "They put AI in MS Paint" is by itself an argument against Windows, even if "behind a paywall" does, for perhaps the first time, make it less awful.
@alextecplayz @osnews or useful if you want accurate information
There a gazillion better & free versions of both Notepad & Paint.
@osnews thank you Microsoft! Keep this up so more people move to Linux!
I really wish they would make Windows free at this point
@osnews it's just the ai stuff. cmon
@osnews Save You A Click: It's only the generative AI features which you didn't want anyway because who the fuck opens paint or notepad to do generative AI come the fuck on
I bet most people didn't even know about the AI integration until this
@osnews It's just pointless AI stuff, no big deal.
@osnews Saved you a click, it's the new AI features people weren't using anyway
I got 99 problems, but micro$oft and window$ and $hitty AI add-ons ain't any of them.
@WeirdWriter @osnews Notepad? Seriously? Wow.
