"Forever chemicals" is a term for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), a class of manmade chemicals that are extremely persistent and don't break down in the environment. PFAS have been used in consumer products since the 1940s and are found in many products.

PFAS are toxic at extremely low levels and have been linked to cancer, reproductive and immune system harm, low birth weight, endocrine disruption, and increased cholesterol.
