@kkarhan @rail @yassie_j no, the Scottish government paid to have a fibre outlet next to every home. They also pay to have it connected up by a team of workmen.
When I signed on with my current ISP, they sent out a team in a week and they sawed out a channel from the footpath, over my concrete front garden and drilled it into the side of my house, then grouted it over to make it look nice.
They gave me a fritzbox router, hooked it up to a wall box and went on their way
The actual infrastructure is all nationally owned, companies simply pay for bandwidth on it. This means no company owns the exclusive rights to any line, and every house commonly has 5 or 6 options for an ISP
