Linux users - anyone know of any voice dictation solutions? Thinking of trying it to at least give me a non-keyboard option whilst I am in a cast. If you have personal experience please, don't just go google it.

Update: Trying Talon (talonvoice.com). Seems like it covers everything I need, and not just on Linux!

talonvoice.comTalonTalon enables you to write code, play games, and control your computer with voice, eye tracking, or noises.

@vk2gpu I’ve run openai whisper locally and had very good results; any apple silicon or modern gpu can run it real-time. That’s only the transcription half but it handles unusual accents and technical terms quite well.

@kkarhan @vk2gpu that’s why I mentioned running it locally. The model is free to download.

@kkarhan @knack anything that requires fancy acceleration is a no go tbh. The machine that I'm currently running this on has an old intel i5 i GPU, and Talon it works just fine so far!

@kkarhan @knack of course I do want to keep an eye out for other options :)

@vk2gpu @knack same for me.

I've got an i5-3320M and a GX-415GA at most and could barely shove a Coral TPU via USB in the system...
