How cool is Linux?
(This is a pun too sorry)
Two Canadian gift coders have developed Linux code that could cut THIRTY PERCENT of power use in data centres.
We could probably have a better economy, better chance of survivng arrogant men pushing oil, if we cut data centre power use by closing 90% of data centres.
But until then, Linux is a huge gift, yours is waiting for you.
@kevinrns Whenever efficiency cuts resource usage and costs, we don't save but they make more. Every freaking time.
@kevinrns The change was 30 lines of code altering the order for CPU caching operations. This is basically a bug fix. Benchmarkers and testers are unsung heros.
It kinda looks like that... I get your praise and point, bit it is far more.
It is a community, its from loving community, it came from long discussions in dorms, offices, schools, and government. Its decades of principled actions, its a willingness to serve humans as if it were whatever the nerd version of holy action is. Its a strong desire for freedom, without wanting to take others freedom away.
And simple, just as you say.
There are loads of these simple gifts.
