@kcarr2015 But what they do, according to canon, is create alternate parallel universes. You don't really fix your own history with time travel.

Is that true? You mean that damn whale probe destroyed Earth, and Kirk and the gang just created an alternate timeline where two humpback whales saved the Federation?
Is this because of those JJ Abrams movies?

@kcarr2015 @Meowthias The Kelvin film is really the only time this is the case. In things like First Contact and Past Tense, the characters experience history changing around them - no alternate universe.
@kcarr2015 The way that time travel is dealt with, and its ramifications, are inconsistent in Star Trek. When "multiverse" ideas bled into Star Trek, it created a dynamic in which nothing that happens really matters. I would love to go back in time with stock tips for myself when I was 19, but only if it changed my own life for the better. If it just created an alternate timeline, then who cares?

Hrmm... #StarTrek Kelvin timeline movies are sorta reimagined versions of the original series movies, so maybe the 4th movie will be a time travel movie where they correct the timeline (with whales) and go back to the original #StarTrekTOS version.
