Question for chicken owners, out of curiosity: what do you think the ACTUAL price of a dozen eggs is from the backyard chickens?
Include: feed, enclosure/repairs, lost chickens from predators, vet visits, chicken retirement lodge, chicken sweaters and hats, etc etc? #chickens

It's been a few years, but when we had a flock of around 100 laying hens, feed to supplement what they ate as free range worked out to $5 per dozen.
That includes the cost of feeding those cute little cheepers you get from the feed store or from a hatchery like Murry McMurry for six months before they start laying eggs.
That does not include the cost of raccoon-proof coops. Raccoons will find any weakness in your enclosure. Skunks will dig their way into possible.
