Last week was a big #spacelaw week for me.
On Thursday I was a panelist on the “Space Junk: Creating a Sustainable Space Ecosystem" panel for the International Space Convention 2023. Some of the things I talked about included the rapid proliferation of space debris and the negative impact that has, the cultural significance of space to all of humankind, and the importance of switching our mindset to planning ahead for future use versus our current system of “first come, first claimed”.
Then on Friday I presented as a #keynotespeaker on: “Jurisdiction and Employment Law in Space: How to Prepare for an Uncertain Legal Future”. During my presentation I talked about the current state of international space law, the need to formally link space registration, liability, and jurisdiction in a system that acknowledges the existence of private actors in space, and the difficulty that we will face if we simply try to export current human resource practices to the space environment.
It was also really surreal to see #AlysonClaireLaw listed as a Silver Sponsor of the convention and to see my logo up above everyone's head as they talked. I think 2023 is our year!
