I made a sign for a protest tomorrow - there were so many things I could say that I had a hard time narrowing it down, but this is a decent summary. I didn’t really mean to add LEDs, it just happened because I have piles of them lying around. Thx to @LaserMistress and @wizard for making great hardware and pointing out excellent LEDs to stash for when I have a need like this one.
Here are more pix of the back and me holding it. I also saved the cutouts for making another sign sometime.
Here is where I admit that the red backing for OFF wasn’t planned and covers a mistake. Somehow I managed to remember to adjust the A for a stencil cut but completely missed the O. Oops I was intending on backing the hands because it made the graphic better, so I added it to OFF as well. Red seemed a good choice which made me choose blue for the hands just to throw the colors of our flag into those fascist fake patriot faces.
Not as bright in the sun of course, but that’s OK. I wrapped the excess LED strand down the handle and loosely held it in place with zip ties.
It held up well and gots lots of love and photos at the protest. I was essentially using the LED wraps on the stake as a grip and the strip held up fine. Went through 2x single 18650 USB lipstick batteries (2200 mAh each) in 3.5 hrs. The Pixelblaze was in AP mode and I blew a friend’s mind when I was like yeah, connect to FuckOffFascists wifi, password protestsign, now go to 192.169.4.1 and change the pattern.
Here are the animations in low light. They were still visible in the shade during the day, but not as bright of course.
@alpenglow I love everything about this
