Clocks and bells were a critical part of bending people's lives to clock time (as opposed to natural time)

Yup - first they used it to erase local differences and natural rhythms in England, and then they exported all the colonising tricks they'd developed here to the wider world.

I found it through The Juice's Rap News which is funny and IMO spot-on in its analysis (and only a little corny - in an endearing way). Apparently one of the main duo originally wrote it as his PhD thesis!

So far have only read the introduction. It is a readable, thought-provoking PhD thesis manuscript. And now looking forward to supplementing it with some dives into The Juice’s Rap News.
