The 2010 Conservative manifesto pledged to “replace the Human Rights Act with a UK Bill of Rights”. The HRA was only 12 years old at this stage.

14 years later, and despite the best efforts (ahem) of authoritarians, xenophobes and bullies like Suella Braverman and Dominic Raab, the Human Rights Act is still here and, after today, the Tories won’t be.

If there’s one thing I’ve enjoyed about the Tories, it’s their ineptitude.

@stenhaastrup I mean after a certain point it just gets embarrassing even for the Tories. Apparently that point is 14 years.

@Nickiquote one day I’ll able to ask a Tory why the “party of small government” wants to scrap a law that limits the power of the state over the individual.
