Welp, looks like Türkiye is looking at acquiring Eurofighter Typhoons instead of F-35s. At this rate, Trump's reputational damage—self-inflicted by attacking his allies and cutting Ukraine off at the knees—is going to take down the US military export industry. Nobody wants to build their armed services around weapons bought from a supplier who couid decide to disable them on a whim.

is also decimating the industry, as countries are quickly developing technologies and equipment to fill the holes left by his desertion of our allies.

(Example: Drones could be more important in modern warfare than bigger systems—and owns the absolute cutting edge of this technology.)

So what happens to Lockheed, Boeing, etc when their foreign customer base sees it can do without them?

@MollyNYC @cstross

Protugal decided not to buy US fighter jets, Canada reconsiders their order, now Turkey.

We need many more countries to follow their lead. It doesn't have to be European if e.g. South Korea or Japan have something that's useful.

@MollyNYC It's not even "developing"; as of 2020 the USA hd 50% of global military spending, BUT the EU and UK combined had 30%. That's changed (Russia and Ukr are spending a lot more now: EU spending is increasing rapidly). But the European powers ALREADY made their own tanks, fighters, aircraft carriers, missiles, nuclear warheads …

@MollyNYC @cstross the moment Ukraine's F16s jammers where turned off was the collective moment everyone realised their defence assets had become liabilities. What nation would feel safe now buying American! You just can not now.
