"I've studied history all of my life. I taught history. And I'm telling you, what I see here are parallels to what the history was in this world back in the 1930s in Germany."
Rep. James Clyburn on Fox
An important message to viewers. I hope they were listening.
@Memorykeeper71 Parallels to 1920s-1930s USA, too. Check out Rachel Maddow's new podcast, Ultra.
@lsitongia I haven’t listened yet, but as a student of history, I agree. It was much more prevalent than we choose to believe. There was a movement in Great Britain, as well. History rhymes as we watch the rise of authoritarianism around the world.
What was the most astonishing fact you learned from Maddow’s podcast?
@Memorykeeper71 The most astonishing fact I learned from Rachel Maddow's Ultra podcast so far is how fierce the #DOJ was in investigating the #US congresspeople and exposing what they were doing with Nazis to the public. It's so discouraging when history repeats itself. Almost 100 years ago, the Great Depression, War, America First and other ultra-conservative forces gaining power, corruption in Congress, ultra-wealth and the wealth gap. Our Big Brains are not good at getting the Big Picture.
@lsitongia what is puzzling to me… . This time there is no economic hardship like the Great Depression, so what is driving authoritarian/fascism around the world? There are many factors that might move the needle, but there has to be a driving force for people to tie their lives to authoritarianism. I just don’t see the one big thing driving it. At any rate, thanks for the information. I will be sure to listen.
