Seriously.
If I suddenly had billions I would live in a witch's hut in a forest with my cats and give money to charity and basically chill. I'd be the online version of Baba Yaga.

@sindarina
A lot of the stuff that gets reposted is from old twitter, and in this case I wasn't even sure what platform it was reposted from when I came across it. I'm long gone from X myself.
@MaryAustinBooks Signs this is from X;
1) The blue checkmark, which also means it's not 'old Twitter’, but fairly recent;
2) Format, layout, font;
3) The username format, lacking any other indicators. ActivityPub, such as Mastodon, always has a username and domain, Bluesky always has domain or subdomain.

It's your account. Post what you want. Anyone who doesn't like it is free to fuck off.
@MaryAustinBooks I would buy the biggest mountain-side lake I could afford, a low power motor boat and build a cabin and dock.
@MaryAustinBooks Ego. They strive to fill a void which can never be filled.
@MaryAustinBooks Rich people don’t commit crimes because they’re rich. They get rich because they commit crimes.
@mighty_orbot @MaryAustinBooks Yes, this exactly.
If you're the kind of person who would "live in a witch's hut in a forest with your cats and give money to charity and basically chill," then you're not the kind of person who would ever be able to achieve that kind of wealth, because you're not enough of an asshole.
@MaryAustinBooks There are billions of ways to enjoy that fortune that don’t involve hurting people.
@MaryAustinBooks the real takeaway here is that the billionaires aren't like us. They're just not. They're psychopaths who by some unfortunate twist of faith were given the means to match their perversely endless ambitions.
These people are so corrupted that they want more itself.
@MaryAustinBooks yeah, it takes some rot to be present in the soul for a person to start accumulating excessive amounts of wealth to hyper compensate for something or fulfill their weird kinks.
Society has ruined us all, fr
@MaryAustinBooks Greed is a thing, luckily not for everyone.
@MaryAustinBooks@mstdn.social no, if you had half a billion dollars, you would try to get one billion, and then two. Is addictive.
@amigaunicorn @MaryAustinBooks@mstdn.social also quite obviously selection bias. The type of person who ends up with 500K in the bank is likely the type of person that does not have the slightest interest in other than getting filthy rich.
The kind of person who stops at 500K is not the kind of person who gets to 500K.
@somedude @MaryAustinBooks@mstdn.social the latest was exactly my point
@MaryAustinBooks @robinrenee I would ensure “comfortable basic living” for myself and all my friends, and yeah…. after that? I’d probably blow a chunk on trying to develop one VERY personal MMORPG, but after that yeah. Charity and maybe buy my Black Lotus back, and we all have fun doing game design or something.
It is just a completely inscrutable mentality to me.
