Mary Austin VOTED 4 HARRIS!

I'm shocked and saddened to hear that @stevesilberman passed away yesterday. My deepest condolences to everyone who knew and loved him. He was a wonderful man, brilliant and full of empathy and wisdom in these hard times.

He will be greatly missed.

@MaryAustinBooks

Oh wow. Sad news. It must have been sudden because he was posting as of 13 hours ago on Bluesky and 21 on Mastodon.

Sad news, indeed.

The neurodiversity community has lost a great ally with the passing of @stevesilberman

Rest in peace

@MaryAustinBooks @stevesilberman Very sad news. That strange quality of social media—being able to see someone’s usual posting activity until a few hours before they died.

@Holberg Very strange. This is a shock even for us, so I can only imagine what his poor loved ones are going through.

@guacamayan
I was shocked to see a reference to him in past tense here on Mastodon where it wasn't clear what had happened. I spent a couple of minutes looking around on the internet to try to find out and then wanted to post my respects to him and his family and friends, and also to let others see a proper notice. 💔

@MaryAustinBooks @stevesilberman

Mary, thank you for sharing this very sad news.

I did not come to know @stevesilberman until I joined Mastodon in late October 2022.

He was so unfailingly kind and had such great stories of San Fransisco life and especially his friendship with David Crosby.

I hope David, Jerry Garcia, and Alan Ginsberg are welcoming him with open arms.

@MaryAustinBooks @stevesilberman

😢 Like my day wasn’t shitty enough. This is heartbreaking 💔.

@MaryAustinBooks @stevesilberman oh. That's very sad.
We knew him via two communities: larger grateful dead family and then here on mastodon.
I'll miss him.

@MaryAustinBooks @stevesilberman Oh damn. I’ve known him since he was <digaman> on The WELL since ‘91. Oh damn.

@tsld Thank you, although I do want to be clear that I'm just another internet fan of his. I never even got to meet him. I really feel for those who knew him personally, since as you say it's a loss for everyone.

@MaryAustinBooks @stevesilberman

Nooooo. Definitely one of the good ones. Damn it. I will certainly miss his Mastodon posts - he had some wisdom, he did. RIP Steve.

@MaryAustinBooks @stevesilberman Oh no. How sad. I will miss his posts. May he RIP. Sweet Sir 💔

@WarnerCrocker I thought I should. After I saw a passing reference to his death, I spent a few minutes searching and really hoping this was just an internet rumor. Sadly it is true, so I wanted to spare other fans the ambiguity.

@MaryAustinBooks Thanks Mary, I'm sad to hear as he provided an excellent point of view and was a solid ally to so many of us. RIP

@MaryAustinBooks @stevesilberman a friend just shared this magnificent post of Steve's. Among his many great qualities was the way he took his Buddhist practice seriously.

@mrcompletely

Steve got it right

This is sad, Steve Brightened Social Media, and print media, and Dead Head land with his contributions.

💔 💔

Love and sympathy to Ward Q Normal.

Damn, this sucks..

@MaryAustinBooks @stevesilberman

💔The is deeply heartbreaking news. 😔 May he rest in peace and his husband and family find the comfort they need.

@MaryAustinBooks @stevesilberman No! R. I. P. I didn’t know you personally, but your brave, and kind, and intelligent voice will be missed.

@MaryAustinBooks @stevesilberman OH, no. I followed Steve Silberman first on Twitter, then on Mastodon. Always looked forward to his intelligent and enlightening commentary. He will be sorely missed. RIP Steve.
My sincerest condolences to everyone who loved him. 💔

@MaryAustinBooks @stevesilberman Oh wow.
I started following him at the start of discovering I was autistic. He was patient and really helped me understand the community better. What a loss. So sad.

@MaryAustinBooks
Oh, this is so sad.
And so sudden at least: from what we know. More news will follow once his husband will be able to, he is probably devastated now 💔🤍

@stevesilberman

@MaryAustinBooks
He and David Crosby will have some catching up to do.

@Dianora Right now there is a huge thread about him on Reddit in r/autism. Many people are talking about how much his book helped them and made them feel seen.

@MaryAustinBooks @stevesilberman
I didn't know Steve, never met him. Just started following him a few months ago. But I too am shocked and saddened by his passing.

My thoughts and condolences go out to his loved ones. 💔

@MaryAustinBooks
Wow. Geez, he was getting the word out right until the end.

He was a good man. May he rest in peace.
@stevesilberman

@Axomamma
Right?? It seemed like just yesterday he was fine. Such a shock.
