okay folx idk if I'm crazy but I've been meaning to talk about hashtags and their usage in Mastodon posts for a while now: can we stop putting them in sentences? also can we learn what a hashtag is?
I just saw a post saying “when will these #gruesome acts end?” and all I could think about is who tf follows the hashtag GRUESOME???
You can put a space below what you're willing to write and put hashtags there, the Mastodon web version already renders the hashtags less visible to the main post and the app will do so soon too!
Mastodon has no algorithm. Putting a hashtag in front of an arbitrary word does not increase that posts visibility, but rather decrease its readability. Unless it's a keyword that you believe people follow as a hashtag or specifically search for as a hashtag (BloomScrolling, SilentSunday, FensterFreitag, etc.) there's no reason to use it.

@ErikUden It also interferes with text-to-speech users, it has been noted.
