The most twisted part, is it was apparently his choice, and he chose it because the other two options (lethal injection and electric chair) *are even more barbaricly administered* in the state.
When being shot to death is seen as the *most humane way* to be killed by the state, you've failed as a state.

Sadly, it's accurate. The alternatives to death by firing squad are asphyxiation with nitrogen gas; badly administered poisons, administered by clerks: and the electric chair, if they apply the gear and get the voltage right. It's really painful.
Being shot is better, if the caliber and aim are right, there are enough shooters, and the officer commanding has the balls to deliver the coup de grace. But, yeah, the choices are state failures.
